| Website
Policy |
| This
is a draft document which is being reviewed online. Staff
and Parents are welcome to make observations and suggest amendments
for consideration. |
| This
policy covers the treatment of personal data that Comberton
Village College may collect when you visit our website, e-mail
us, or when you complete and submit an online form on our
web site. |
There
are two Guidance Documents issued by Cambridgeshire County
Council which are being considered in the formulation of these
policies (both .pdf files):
Guidance
to Schools on the Use of Images (Childrens and Young
People's Services)
Guidance
to Educational Establishments on Child Protection and the
Use of the Internet (Cambridgeshire Education Child
Protection Service) |
|
| Comberton Village College uses reasonable efforts
to include and update information on this website. It does
not however, make any representation as to its accuracy or
completeness. All information is given in good faith and no
responsibility can be accepted for errors. Comberton Village
College, and other parties and individuals involved in creating

|
| Every effort is made
to keep the Comberton Village College school website suitable
for visitors of any age. |
| The website is registered with the Internet
Content Rating Association (ICRA) scheme which is an international,
non-profit organisation of internet leaders working to develop
a safer internet. Eventually, all of the pages on the CVC
website will be self-regulated within the scheme for the following
categories: |
No nudity
No sexual material
No violence
No potentially offensive language
No potentially harmful activities
No user-generated content |
| Labelled content can be identified by the ICRA
link located at the base of the qualifying pages. Click on
the link for individual page confirmation and further information. |
| Please contact the
if you have any concerns about anything on these pages. Please give details of the web page
and the item that causes you concern. |
| Every effort is also
made to keep the links on the Comberton Village College website
suitable for visitors of any age. If you find a link with
content deemed unsuitable for family viewing, it would be
appreciated if you could contact the
with details and the offending link will be removed immediately.

| Photographs
and Personal Security |
|
 |
| Most parts of the CVC Website can be accessed
by anyone on the Internet. Although photographs that include
pupils add a liveliness and interest to a website that is
difficult to achieve in any other way, the personal security
of pupils and staff must come first. Sadly, although common
in newspapers, the publishing of pupils' names alongside
large photographs is not acceptable. Web images
can be downloaded and edited in an unpleasant or embarrassing
way. |
|
"Including images of pupils
on the school website can be motivating for the pupils involved
and provide a good opportunity to promote the work of the
school. It is important to balance the potential risks of
including images of pupils on the website against the design
principles of creating colourful, attractive and relevant
pages, as the school, heads and governors would do with
any publication."
- Superhighway Safety - safe use of the internet |
|
The Comberton Village College website therefore observes
the following guidelines when using photographs of pupils: |
|
Written authority from parents or guardians must be obtained
before a recognisable photograph of a pupil is published
on the school website.
Website photographs will be checked to ensure suitable content
appropriate for a school website.
Website photographs that include identifiable pupils will
be published only as smaller images (typically a maximum
of 250px along the greater length).
Website photographs that include pupils will be published
with the minimum possible resolution (photographs appear
sharp on screen but 'blur' if copied and enlarged).
The school, at its discretion, may choose to 'blur' an individual
face in a website photograph.
Pupils in photographs will not be identified by either first
name(s) or surname.
A parent or guardian may request the removal of a photograph
from the website which they believe does not comply with
the above guidelines. Please e-mail the
with details. |
| The Comberton Village College website observes
the following guidelines regarding personal security protection: |
|
The website will never publish any personal or contact information
relating to school pupils. This will include phone or mobile
numbers, school or private e-mail addresses and home location
and/or address details.
The website will never publish any personal or contact information
relating to members of CVC staff. This includes private
phone or mobile numbers, private e-mail addresses and home
location and/or address details. Where a phone number or
e-mail address is provided, this will always be located
on the school network.
Where a school contact name or e-mail information point
is provided, this will always be to a teacher or other adult
member of the college staff.
E-mail addresses given on the school website will be routinely
protected from automated 'harvesting' by external computers.
Where contact details are provided for (say) an external
community organisation or private individual not part of
Comberton Village College, any inclusion on the school website
will require specific permission from the 'owner'. Such
information may include a domestic phone number, personal
e-mail address or home contact address. Please note that
the college does not accept any responsibility if the published
contact details are misused in any way.
Contact details and links to websites as advertised for
and by public organisations or companies are held to be
in the public domain and may be included on the school website
without specific permission or prior notification. |
|
If you have any queries relating to the schools policy
on website photographs and personal security protection
then please e-mail the
