 Child
Protection Team |
| We have four members of staff who have undertaken
the Child Protection training given by the county Child Protection
trainers. Their roles are summarised below. Any of the team
can be contacted on Child Protection matters. In the following
document the term 'Child Protection Team' refers to these members
of staff. In addition, the Principal is kept fully informed
on all Child Protection issues by the SENCo. |
| Member of staff: |
Position: |
| Lil Davies |
SENCo, Designated person for
Child Protection |
| Irayna Owen |
Assistant Principal, Senior
Manager for Special Needs |
| Lynne Stewart |
Deputy in Special Needs |
| Antoinette Lyons |
Head of Student Guidance |
|
|
 Initial Report |
| When first concerns about a pupil are raised the
member of staff concerned should log these on a formal 'Log
of Concern Sheet', copies of which are kept in the Centre office,
on the Staff Room Notice Board and on the staff drive in the
'SEN Informat' folder. The sheet should be printed out and not
emailed if accessed via the school network, due to the confidential
nature of the information contained in it about a pupil. Email
should always be regarded as public information. The sender
should not save a copy electronically. The sheet should then
be given to a member of the Child Protection Team for follow
up, or placed folded in a pigeon hole marked 'Confidential'. |
|
Follow Up by the Child Protection Team |
| On receipt of a 'Log of Concern' sheet the team member will
discuss the issue with the SENCo. All Child Protection issues
will thus go through the SENCo, (in case of absence the SEN
Line Manager will carry out this role). The SENCo may choose
to refer any case to the Line Manager for discussion before
proceeding with the chosen course of action. In cases of extreme
need or difficulty advice may be sought from the county Child
Protection service. Once a course of action has been decided
upon it will be carried out as quickly as possible according
to the needs of the individual case, and always in a time frame
to minimise danger to the pupil concerned. |
| The team member carrying out the follow up will record their
actions in full on one copy of the log sheet, which will be
filed in the locked Child Protection cabinet in the centre office.
In addition a brief and non confidential account of the follow
up will be recorded on another copy of the log sheet and a copy
passed to the member of staff who raised the initial concern
and to the relevant Head of Year. In this way staff will be
able to see that their concerns have been acted upon. |
|
 Long Term Concerns |
| A small minority of pupils may give us cause for
concern over a prolonged period of time. It is very important
that all concerns over a pupil, however small, are logged and
passed to the Child Protection Team. This allows a full picture
to be established and acted upon. These concerns can also be
logged on the 'Log of Concern' form. All forms will be filed
in a named folder in the locked Child Protection cabinet in
the centre office. It is the duty of the SENCo to ensure these
records are up to date and that the cabinet is locked. |
|
 Records of Meetings |
| Some pupils causing concern will be the focus
of meetings in school with a mixed attendance, involving for
instance parents, outside agencies, Student Support staff, tutor,
Head of Year, Year Line manager and the Principal as well as
a member of the Child Protection Team. It is important that
clear records are kept by the person who convened the meeting.
These should be handwritten during the meeting and can then
be edited when typed for distribution. Copies of notes including
confidential information should only be given to the Child Protection
Team for safe filing. Minutes containing confidential information
relating to an identifiable child should not be emailed to staff
as email should be considered as public information. |
