PD Day One
(September) |
'My Options Post-16' |
| Pupils will be given
important information about qualifications and courses. They
will complete a computer program, KUDOS, which will give them
the opportunity to learn about a variety of occupations and

Day Two (November) |
'Business Enterprise and Preparation for Post 16' |
| This Conference Day
will build on pupils' earlier learning on PD Day One. Pupils
will examine the demands of an interview and be given the opportunity
to develop their own presentation skills. In preparation for
college applications, pupils will write their personal statements. |
| The
second half of the day will be lead by Cambridge Enterprise
Services. Pupils will participate in a simulation game 'Boom
Bizz' to give them greater insight into the world of business
and enterprise. |

Day Three
(January) |
'Peace Studies Day' |
| This day is led by Mr Dawes. It provides pupils
with an opportunity to explore topical issues and to work with
a variety of visiting speakers. The day will begin with an introduction
by Stewart Hemsley (Chair of Pax Christi - a Roman Catholic
peace organisation). Pupils will then choose three workshops
to attend. These include Peace and Music, Art and Peace, Mediation,
Peacemaking, and the Media. |
| After lunch, pupils will watch a video some
of our pupils made of Brian Haw, the peace campaigner who has
camped outside the Houses of Parliament for over 5½ years. Bruce
Kent (Vice-Chair of CND, former leader of CND, former leader
of the Movement for the Abolition of War) will then speak to
pupils and respond to some of their questions. Those pupils
who attended the Peace and Music session will be invited to
perform some of their work. |

Day Four (March)
|
'Healthy and Safer Lifestyles' |
| Visiting speakers
from the Primary Care Trust will lead pupils through a number
of sessions concerning personal health. Pupils will receive
guidance and information on self-examination, sexually transmitted
diseases and different methods of contraception. Throughout
the day, pupils will be given the opportunity to discuss these
issues within the wider context of positive relationships. |
|
Pupils will also learn the basics of personal finance, thinking
ahead to some of the commitments and decisions they may face
in the years to come. They will be given the opportunity to
reflect upon the high levels of personal debt in Britain, and
the attitudes towards money which have may have contributed
to such changes. |

Day Five (April)
|
'How Can I Effectively Structure my Study Time?' |
| This Conference Day
will give pupils practical guidance that will equip them with
the skills and understanding to positively manage their study
time. Pupils will continue to develop a variety of revision
techniques, appealing to different learning styles. Pupils will
practise these skills and consider the suitability of strategies
for particular subjects. Pupils will also be given the opportunity
to examine the importance of time management and the place of
relaxation in effective study time. |
|
As pupils are reaching the age when they will be learning to
drive, they will receive key information on the risks associated
with driving. Headway, a local charity which supports people
with head injuries, will deliver a presentation on the potential
consequences of fast or reckless driving. |
