Day Three
(January) |
'Making my Own Health Choices' |
| Pupils will focus on two important areas of
health-sexual health and emotional health. |
| Pupils will be encouraged to develop their
awareness of emotional health. |
| They will look at the life of a particular
celebrity to analyse how emotional health changes and the impact
this may have on an individual's life. Pupils will look closely
at stress-how it is caused, when it becomes negative and the
ways in which stress can be dealt with. Teachers from the Centre
will also be leading sessions on Self-Harm. |
| The second part of the day will focus on Sexual
Health. Pupils will receive key information about contraception
and sexually transmitted infections. These sessions will take
place within a wider discussion on the place of sex within positive
and healthy relationships. |

up-to-date information about illegal and legal drugs. They will
consider the possible impact of drug and alcohol use on individuals,
and their friends and families. Pupils will be encouraged to

Day Five (April)
|
'What Makes Me, Me?' |
| This Conference Day
encourages pupils to explore cultural identity. At the start
of the day, pupils are asked to consider 'What makes me, me?'
They reflect on their relationships, beliefs, hobbies, and their
aspirations. Pupils then examine the issue of Identity Cards,
considering arguments 'for' and 'against' their introduction.
|
| Pupils will also
examine some of the stereotypes associated with being British,
comparing these with the reality of pupils' experiences. Pupils
also examine the different groups of people who have settled
in Britain and reflect upon how they have shaped life in Britain. |
|
In the afternoon pupils will have the unique opportunity to
hear, first hand, the experiences of people who work with people
seeking asylum, and those who have had to leave their home.
Pupils are encouraged to reflect upon their own attitudes, and
how these may have changed or developed as a result of the day's
activities. |
